Much like Storm Claudia swept through the northwest the night before, City blew the visitors away at the their home ground. It was a statement 3-0 triumph for Andrée Jeglertz’s side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that truly announced their leadership claims as they reinforced their position at the league summit.

Consecutive Losses for Manchester United

This result represented consecutive WSL setbacks for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since May 2024, placing them a sizable gap off the top team with their trophy ambitions severely dented.

United’s ability to balance league and continental football with a thin squad has been a widely debated topic since they secured entry to the Champions League. Considering the calendar, it always seemed this was the matchday that would truly test this ability. Sadly for the visitors, they seemed tired throughout, the memorable win against PSG clearly having taken a toll.

Team Changes

Marc Skinner had attempted to make changes with a handful of adjustments. Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Galton all brought vigor, although the exclusion of the on-form Melvine Malard to the substitutes raised a few eyebrows.

Manchester City, in comparison, have no similar loading worries. The City coach made one adjustment from their most recent win over Everton with Hemp making her return to the lineup since returning from injury.

Commanding Opening Period
