Sam Fender has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to protect the Britain's grassroots live music spots.

Fender was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function local spots had in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

He also took part, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous local spots across the UK.

The donation supported locations that were facing possible closure due to difficulties stemming from floods, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from shows in big venues helps the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his Mercury Prize funds to good deeds.

In 2002, artist the artist shared her award between multiple charities, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

Previously, they contributed their prize money to the youth organization that supported their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients the group donated their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," said artist the singer. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our success touched somebody else's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved a couple of local spots in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The first in that area and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who acquire "ownership units" in the venues.
